Move more
Every day find ways to move your body. If given the choice between stairs, escalator and a lift always opt for the stairs.
Run with the kids, walk the dog, play football in the garden, go for a brisk walk, anything that moves your limbs is not only an excellent fitness tool it also reduces stress.
It doesn't have to be an hour in a gym, a 45 minute aerobics session or stressful dance class, just keep the thought "I must move more" with you throughout the day!
Cut fat
Avoid the obvious such as fried foods, burgers and other fatty meats (ie. Pork, bacon, ham and sausage). Dairy products such as cheese, cottage cheese, milk and cream should be eaten in low fat versions. Nuts and sandwich meats, mayonnaise, margarine butter and sauces should be eaten in moderation. Most are available in low fat versions.
Quit smoking
The jury has definitely decided its verdict on this issues. Ever since the mid 60's when it was medically accepted that smoking was harmful to your health, people have been cutting down on their use of tobacco products that kill.
Smoking will affect your ability to exercise and will be ultimately harmful to your health. Just give up one cigarette but make sure it's the next one!
Reduce stress
Easier said than done! Stress busters come in many forms, some techniques simply recommend positive thinking. Spend half an hour a day doing something you like and find enjoyable. Soak in a hot bath perhaps, walk on the beach, take the dog for a walk, read a good book. Just take some time out in the day to do something for you. You will find the long term benefits are excellent for you and those around you.
Protect yourself from pollution
If you can't live in a pollution-free environment at least try and avoid it. Steer clear of smoke filled rooms, high traffic areas, breathing in road fumes and avoid exercising near busy thoroughfares.
Choose where to exercise, stay inside when pollution outside is high and go outside when it is clear. Plant lots of shrubbery in your garden, it's a good pollution deterrent.
Remember: Smoke gets in your eyes.. and your mouth, nose and lungs.
